Devon » Seaton accommodation

Further east than any other Devon holiday spot, Seaton is located right at the end of the River Axe. This traditional, family favourite, seaside town has received tourists for more than a hundred years, and contains a variety of restaurants, cafés and shops. An annual Carnival Week takes place each August, featuring a town centre nighttime parade of iluminated displays.

At over a mile long the Seaton Bay beach offers a variety of water activities and sports, from diving and swimming to windsurfing and sailing, and is framed by differently coloured cliffs on either side. There are many beautiful gardens along this steep beach including Jubilee Gardens, s a great place to bowl, putt and play tennis. During the summer months, an open-air tram system crosses the river and travels up to Colyton, a close by medieval town.

Along the seaside South West Coastal Path one can also wander off to Beer, just a mile away, or to Lyme Regis, if headed to the east. At Beer, once a legendary haven for smugglers, one can visit the lovely beach within a cave-filled cove and discover the home of the Beer stone, used in cathedrals worldwide.

On the Axmouth side of the river lies the Sea Discovery Centre, hosting a large assortment of Seaton Bay sea-life. The bird-watching is also good at the Seaton Marshes Nature Reserve, right by the tramway. For some great views of the bay, Cliff Field Gardens are recommended. Inside the Town Hall, the Axe Valley Heritage Museum can be found, exhibiting local and natural history displays.
