Devon » Budleigh Salterton accommodation

Offering great views of the red cliffs on the spectacular East Devon coast, Budleigh Salterton is a place of peace and relaxation. A little brook runs along side many of the oldest houses, up on High Street, with small bridges make some of the buildings accessible. Literary associations with the likes of P.G. Woodhouse and Noel Coward have helped put this town on the map. It also boasts Georgian and Regency architecture, good restaurants, cafés and some interesting shops.
An old cottage with a thatch roof, the Fairlynch Museum exhibits local and natural history, with a large display of laces and costumes. A famous painting of Sir Walter Raleigh as a boy was done by Millais on the old local seafront wall, which it depicts. Raleigh was himself born not far from here, in East Budleigh.
A light but very enjoyable walk, Marine Parade leads straight to the River Otter. The nearby beach features rock pools at one end, near the river, and is entirely comprised of pebbles. The town's sporting facilities include golf courses, a bowling alley and croquet field.
From the top of the cliffs, which you can hike up, one can enjoy some amazing views of both Lyme Bay and the town. Also, walking along the coastpath will not only lead to Sandy Bay, and then eventually to Orcombe Point near Exmouth, but also to some gorgeous views
