Details

Our traditional stone cottage and lovely garden has beautiful sweeping views over River Axe Valley. Comfortable, cosy, quality accommodation consists of large bedroom (King-sized posture-sprung bed), bright and homely conservatory, fitted oak kitchen, all electric - main oven and hob, fridge, microwave, quality utensils etc. Dining area from which there are views over the garden and beyond. The bathroom has a power shower, toilet, wash-basin, electric towel rail, shaver point, etc. Sony digital television, DVD player and Panasonic CD music system. Conservatory, from which squirrels and many birds (e.g. woodpeckers, buzzards, blue tits, nuthatch) are viewed, has comfortable armchairs, electric coal-effect fire and standard lamp. The centrally heated cottage, facing S/SW, lies on edge of this picturesque village; approximately 200 yards from 'The George', a 16thC Thatched Inn.

The cottage is on the edge of the charming village of Chardstock which lies on the Devon/Somerset/Dorset borders, with sweeping views in all directions. Friendly Village Store and Post Office nearby, while supermarkets are in Chard and Axminster.

There are many local walks and further afield is The 'Jurassic Coast' World Heritage Site which is approximately 10 miles away (Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Seaton) where fossil hunting is a popular recreation. The Charmouth Heritage Coastal Centre is stocked with locally found fossils and the museum is very informative about local history,

National Trust conservation land near the sea and the South West Coastal Paths will delight walkers at Beer, Branscombe and Burton Bradstock, and relax the most stressed.

Further afield are the County towns of Exeter, Taunton and Yeovil. The Haynes International Motor Museum is at Sparkford, and at Yeovilton Air Museum there's a rouch of aviation history as you can visit Concorde OO2 and see examples of aircraft evolution including Spitfires and Helicopters.

National Trust properties and the Cistercian Abbey and Gardens at Forde Abbey are within easy reach. The more adventurous can access Dartmoor, Exmoor, the Somerset Levels (noted for their birdlife), the East and West Somerset Railways, and Weymouth, by car. There are many outstanding natural beauty areas to explore. The 'Blackdown Hill Conservation Area', where we live, is a good example.

The cottage lies within a beautiful 1/4 acre garden, maintained by the owners and overlooks the River Axe Valley and beyond. Garden chairs and table are provided and for cooler evenings a log cabin summer house is available for guests' exclusive use. This is particularly inviting in the evenings when the sun sets over the distant hills.

We welcome guests and hope they enjoy their visit to our cottage in Devon. But, sorry, no pets, or smokers.
